Elvis : Caught In A Trap really is a great photo book. True, this book contains some of the most amazing Elvis photos ever taken, with Elvis performing on stage with a toy monkey on his back and Elvis on Lamar Fike's back but these tend to stereotype the book almost like a gimmick, they are only 8 of 120 pages and while very interesting don't make for enough reason to buy a book!, but it is the other pages that do, all told it is a high quality book, with clear photos in color and black and white. In all, there are around 135 Elvis Presley photographs in this book, 80 of which are in full color. View sample photos.

These unique Elvis Presley photos were taken by renowned Dutch rock photographer Laurens van Houten, and the majority of them have never been published. They were taken at several concerts during Elvis' Summer Festival in Las Vegas in August / September 1973, and really capture the drama and excitement of Elvis in concert. The September 3rd, 1973 Closing Show is regarded by many as the most remarkable and unusual show that Elvis ever gave, and there are many stunning shots from that show in this book.

Elvis : Caught In A Trap really is a great photo book. True, this book contains some of the most amazing Elvis photos ever taken, with Elvis performing on stage with a toy monkey on his back [and Elvis on Lamar Fike's back] but these tend to stereotype the book almost like a gimmick, they are only 8 of 120 pages and while very interesting don't make for enough reason to buy a book, but it is the other pages that do, all told it is a high quality book, with clear photos in color and b/w. In all, there are around 135 Elvis Presley photographs in this book, 80 of which are in full color. So without any reservation, we highly recommend this book.
Laurens van Houten's Elvis photographs are complemented by his detailed account of seeing and photographing Elvis in Las Vegas, fascinating observations from Elvis' musicians about the Vegas years, and an insightful introduction by Elvis' piano-player and arranger Glen D. Hardin. The book also contains memorabilia relating to these concerts, like original reviews and clippings, advertisements for the shows, Las Vegas Hilton Menus, original Hilton reservations for the shows, various Dutch magazine covers from the 70's featuring Laurens van Houten's Elvis photography, and more.
This high quality hardback book documents the unique Elvis photography of one of Europe's leading rock photographers, Laurens van Houten, who photographed Elvis Presley during the unusual August / September 1973 Las Vegas engagement. Van Houten managed to photograph three concerts, including the September 3rd 1973 Closing Show, which is now considered by many as the most remarkable and unusual concert that Elvis ever performed. Some of the pix show Elvis entering the stage on the back of his aide Lamar Fike, while on others he's having a pluche monkey on his back!
The remaining shots are not quite as bizarre, but they are also quite special in that they really capture the energy, excitement and drama of Elvis in concert. Arjan Deelen and Peter Haan recently obtained the exclusive rights to this unique series of Elvis shots, and were able to work from the original negatives for CAUGHT IN A TRAP, thus ensuring optimal quality. The book will contain almost 150 Elvis Presley photos, most of them unpublished, and many of them in color. These photos are complimented by Laurens van Houten's detailed and humorous account of seeing and photographing Presley in Las Vegas, as well as some amazing memorabilia from the collections of Elvis experts like Anne E. Nixon.
Glen D. Hardin, Elvis' piano-player and arranger from 1970 to '76, got quite excited when we showed him Laurens van Houten's stunning photography recently, and he has written a touching and insightful introduction for CAUGHT IN A TRAP.
