Elvis Presley : A Life In Music is a superlative book combining beautiful illustrations and searching text. The author, responsible for BMG's modernisation of the Elvis Presley catalogue, has dug well beneath the surface to present the definitive story behind Elvis Presley's recording sessions. In the process the reader is taken into the recording studio to experience the atmosphere: 'Altering the lyrics, laughing as his voice cracked, throwing in the first two lines of 'A Little Less Conversation'. Elvis was relaxed and energetic as they ran through a series of incomplete takes, finally making it to the end at take ten.'
Jorgensen has also managed to intertwine a solid general Elvis Presley biography. Full details for each song recorded, or intended to be recorded by Elvis, are presented, including matrix numbers, technical credits, dates, musicians, venues and songwriters. The reader will find details regarding each songs initial release and released alternate takes are also covered.
Recommended. Once in a while a book comes along that stands out from the myriad of other books published about Elvis. Elvis Day By Day – The Definitive Record of His Life and Music is one such book.
